CIOs Compromising Business Performance by Failing to Read the Small Print on Hosted Services

Gosport, Hampshire, 6 May, 2009: IT directors are failing to check the small print in their contracts which could lead to cut connections and shared - or "contended" - connectivity to their hosted services, in turn affecting technical, and therefore business, performance.

This is the warning of Redstation, a Hampshire-based data centre provider which has seen a 600 per cent rise in business since late 2008, often from disgruntled chief information officers (CIOs) who have previously found themselves locked into unfair contracts.

Redstation provides a flexible range of hosted services which benefit from uncontended, high-speed connectivity.

With contended connections very little is made apparent to the customer and connection speeds are often advertised as if they were uncontended, according to Redstation's Managing Director, Lance Taylor.

"Some hosting providers may not lie, but they certainly omit important information about their connectivity offer. They depend on customers not reading the small print, which explains that the connection is contended," he warned. "These are often the same contracts that require a 12-month lock-in, meaning IT departments - and the organisations they serve - are restricted from operating to their maximum potential and that could be damaging in the current economic climate."

Redstation's continual investment in fast, high-capacity fibre means its customers enjoy uncontended, flexible connectivity which can be utilised at full speed 100 per cent of the time.

"Above anything CIOs want reliability and flexibility from their hosted services provider. That gives them the peace of mind to focus on the other business-critical challenges that they face on a daily basis," Taylor added.
