Redstation hosts film celebrating first human spaceflight

Hampshire data centre operator Redstation is to host a film - to be screened at launch parties around the globe - celebrating the world's first human spaceflight.

On 12th April it will be 50 years since Yuri Gagarin climbed into his ship and was launched into space. It took him just 108 minutes to orbit Earth - and he returned as the world's very first astronaut.

Now astronaut Paolo Nespoli and documentary film-maker Christopher Riley have woven together footage from the International Space Station with historic voice recordings from Yuri's flight, and an original score by composer Philip Sheppard.

The result is a spellbinding 108-minute film that re-creates Gagarin's experience 50 years ago.

"Circling the Earth in my orbital spaceship I marvelled at the beauty of our planet. People of the world, let us safeguard and enhance this beauty - not destroy it" said Gagarin of his flight.

Yuri's great achievement will be celebrated at screening parties across the world on 12th April - from Afghanistan to Vietnam. The 12-gigabyte film will be hosted in Redstation's state-of-the-art data centre in Gosport, Hampshire, available for download ready for party screenings everywhere.

"We're delighted to be involved with this landmark production which enables Yuri Gagarin's historic voyage and vision to be celebrated around the world" said Redstation's Managing Director Martin Groom.
